'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the thrilling dying seconds of Swansea's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles after the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative effort from distance, and Cameron Burgess immediately hammered in the deflection before sprinting toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result capped an unbelievable comeback given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the second half. In the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter shouting out and Josh Key and I were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result earned a upcoming match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's long-range effort from about way out going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for having a go from that distance," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right defensive wing after they changed shape. That meant facing off against City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way his former team played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the basics and simple things, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they are adept at control and slow down a game. You can think you're all right and then abruptly they will just thread a ball through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It takes a tough attitude and focus just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in his new home. At the London club he reunited with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a temporary move at League Two the Manchester club, before he departed Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a slightly green going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without much intensity. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that maturation for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the past five games, including two matches fixtures against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a decisive through ball.

Humble Beginnings

It has been an incredible journey for the kid from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his dad, his father, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's sole appearance for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they played on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was shut owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "That proved to be a long trip and it was chilly," he recalls, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "This turned out quite easy, because I reached the point where I understood I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm hugely grateful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I felt I needed to go my own route, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a minibus driven by club employees, the drivers, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to spend time with the lads but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would mix with fans on public transport after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
